Our very own David Fergus, while swimming along with the GB team in the Spanish National Championships in Castellon, Spain has just won 2 golds - 1 in the relay team and one for his 100m freestyle. Not content with this, he competed in his favourite stroke, the 100m breast stroke, and won a silver medal. Go David Go! Your our star!
Morrisons Portobello Road (Piershill) - Saturday 29th November.
Portobello have previously managed to raise significant funds through this activity. However, this obviously requires our swimmers and parents to support this fully.
Janette Bell will be co-ordinating this event. Please contact her to volunteer for a slot or two on the day.
Portobello Amatuer Swimming Club Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday 13 November at Bellfield St. Church at 7pm.
Please come along and support your child’s club!
First meet after the summer hols; this gala saw some very good swims from a number of our swimmers with some excellent PBs recorded. Saturday was Scott’s day, where he won gold, silver and bronze with a huge PB in the 100m free.  On Sunday Benjamin led the way with 2 golds and 2 other finals.
Gillian took silver in the 50m breast with a new PB, John M took bronze in the IM and made the 50m fly final and Kathryn also made the final of the 50m free.
We had a few swimmers competing at the National Champs; the toughest competition held in Scotland. Niall recorded a fabulous 5th place in the 100m fly for boys 14 and under, recording a huge PB in the process. Rachel finished a highly credible 20th place in the Open 50m breast, just missing a place in the B final by way of a swim-off. Katie Feather, Louise M, Erin, Gillian, Raquel and Gavin also swam, having made the very tough qualifying times.
Sunday saw the relay finals, where we had four different teams competing. After the 11/12 boys winning a bronze last year, this year it was the the 11/12 girls team who shone.Â
The team of Clare PB, Katie F, Raquel and Amy had us all yelling our heads off in the very first event where they took the silver medals in the medley. The 11/12 boys finished in a respectable 5th place in the medley, though were DQ’d in the free. The 11/12 girls (same swimmers) then competed in a very exciting free relay where the first 5 teams were only separated by 1.5 secs. Four excellent swims saw our girls on the medal podium, this time taking the bronze.
A great team performance up in Dundee saw us lift the trophy for Best Club, and it was the first time we’ve competed in this event.
Our 12 year olds all did very well, scoring points in almost every event.  Raquel led the way with 5 finals and 5 golds, including recording a new East District record for the 100m IM. Lee took a gold in the fly with Rory M taking the silver and also a bronze in the back.  Cammy took bronze in the breast. Katie won a silver and bronze and Clare PB took a bronze (in the fly).  Amy and Louise also made finals and picked up valuable team points.
We also picked up medals and finalists in the 11 and 10/under categories. Chris had an excellent day, reaching every final and winning a gold, 2 silvers and a bronze. Michaela and Benjamin also made finals and the squad relay team finished second in the last event of the day.
